But scandal erupted when a broad-scale federal audit revealed massive bribes from NMC executives to the New-Troi mayor's office for legislation that crippled their competitors and wrecked the local economy. Facing possible life imprisonment, the president of NMC fled, and has holed up near the port train station with a band of mercenaries awaiting evacuation.
